What does everyone think about the new “door-to-door trash pick-up service” that management is going to launch? They sent an email to residents recently, about this new trash pickup service that will start on October 30.
My main takeaway was: We all start paying a little more in rent, and in return we get to have everyone’s trash out in the hallways all the time.
Basically, the new trash pickup system will work like this:
– Everyone puts their trash cans outside their apartment, in the hallway, at 7pm
– People from some trash sorting company will come pick up your trash at some point
– Everyone is asked to have their trash cans brought back inside their units by 9am the next morning
I think this is a terrible idea. Sounds like what will happen is there will always be trash cans (without lids) sitting in the halls. It will smell. It will be gross.
The building management must be launching this new program in an effort to save them money. They get fined by the city if our trash isn’t sorted properly. So they must be hiring a company to handle the trash sorting, as it’s easier to sort it one bin at a time vs. digging through the whole dumpster at the bottom of the trash chutes.
They mentioned that if/when we renew our lease, there will be an increase in the garbage fee that we all pay. So it seems that instead of paying the city fines, they want us to pay for a company to come sort the trash for us, while at the same time, make it so that our hallways are always filled with trashcans.
I’m not sure what they are thinking. I can’t imagine how this program could succeed, or what it will take to get them to NOT do this program. It will be interesting. Would love to hear if anyone else thinks this will or will not work well, and see if we can do something to get the message across to them.
